Cheer Up!

After a rough few years, you might think that consumers would be feeling rough about the economy right now – particularly in the run up to Christmas. Not so, says research from The Confidence Board, which have seen its Board Confidence index jump to “70.3 in September – the best since February.”

A similar measure from Thomson/Reuters is expected to put consumer confidence at its highest level since 2007 when announced on Friday. The big snag is that executives aren’t feeling the love – 60% or more are still worried about a global economic downturn, and this could have a knock on effect on consumer confidence.
